A Review of the Complete Jewish Study Bible — 2 Comments

  1. I read your article with great excitement. I’ve heard of this Bible but never read anything on it. I am not familiar with David H. Stern. Who is he exactly? Is he a Messianic Jew? I would love to see this study Bible alongside an NIV study Bible. I pastor a church, this may be a good addition to my library for research purposes. You can never learn enough about God. Question… the NIV, ESV, KJV, etc. are translations written by committees on many theologians. Is this strictly David H. Stern’s translation or were others involved?

    Thank you for your article.

    • These are great questions!

Dr. Stern was a Messianic Jewish theologian. He passed away just a few weeks ago on October 8, 2022. This is a translation made by him, not a committee.

I think it would be difficult to combine something like the NIV Study Bible with the Complete Jewish Study Bible, as the study notes take up a lot of space and the book would be quite heavy. However, Hendrickson Publishers did put out a parallel CJB/NIV back in 2011. As far as I know it was never republished and is now out-of-print. Occasionally you can find them used – try checking this link at Amazon, and if it isn’t available check back later.
